Yuji Yabuki is the 18th Generation Headmaster of Ono-ha Itto-ryu, a four-hundred-year-old school of samurai swordsmanship, and kendo instructor at the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department.
Born in Iwaki, Fukushima Prefecture, he entered the Metropolitan Police Department in 1992 where he has held positions as assistant kendo instructor in the Kitazawa Police Station, the Police Academy, the 7th Riot Squad, and the General Education Division. In 2019, he was promoted to instructor in the Kendo Instruction Office, where he currently serves.
In 1995, he studied kendo and Ono-ha Itto-ryu at the Metropolitan Police Department's Martial Arts' Specialty School.
In 2017, he succeeded Sasamori Takemi to become the 18th Soke of Ono-ha Itto-ryu, a position he continues to hold.
In 2024, he was promoted to Kendo 8 Dan.
Yabuki Yuji Soke teaches Ono-ha Itto-ryu in the Reigakudo, the Tokyo headquarters, as well as in seminars throughout the United States and Europe.
On August 11, 2024, Yabuki Soke passed his 8 Dan promotion examination in kendo. Out of 445 candidates, only 12 recieved this rank, a pass rate of 2.7%.
